Colonel Parker had argued vociferously against the release of a soundtrack album from the new movie. This may have been due to concern over the relative failure of It Happened At The World’s Fair. Or he might have felt some mistrust of the new material. Or perhaps it was simply to strengthen his bargaining position with Hal Wallis and RCA. In any case when he finally relented, it was only with the addition of two “bonus tracks” from the Nashville album session, thus permanently dooming its release. The sound was better than that of the last movie LP; with the additional tracks it certainly offered more value-for-money. But it still sold only 300,000 copies.
